Towards A Longer Gentler Visitor Season
A giant step forward towards achieving a sustainably managed tourism industry for the Southern Gulf Islands Region is now underway. Stakeholders including the Salt Spring Island Community Economic Development Commission (CEDC), the Southern Gulf Islands – Community Economic Sustainability Commission (SGI CESC), the Salt Spring and Southern Gulf Islands Chambers of Commerce and the local CRD, worked together to gain the support of the majority of our Region’s commercial tourism accommodators and tourism sector for the Municipal and Regional District Tax (MRDT). Beginning September 1, 2019, the MRDT program will provide a much-needed boost to year-round revenues.
